Participating in AAB production has been a wonderful opportunity to work on my artistry and expression as an adult dancer. It is a great opportunity for adult hobbyists to participate in a ballet performance on stage.

Door de fijne sfeer en docenten, heb ik de mogelijkheid gekregen mezelf te ontwikkelen. Angst om op het podium te staan is omgezet in plezier en na jaren niet meer durven was het een aangename ervaring. Heel inclusief, ik was onzeker over mijn lichaam, maar heb hier tijdens het oefenen en optreden geen last meer van gehad. Al met al kan ik het iedereen aanraden die zich wil ontwikkelen in ballet, graag een keer wil optreden of onzekerheden wil overwinnen.

I also love the community that is super friendly, kind and open to all different ballet levels and body types. The organizers try to make sure that everyone is featured in the final performance.”

I love being a part of the Amsterdam Amateur Ballet. It has provided me the chance to live out my childhood dreams of dancing in the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. It’s so cool to have the opportunity to perform in shows as an adult. I’ve made friends and improved my ballet and pointe skills, all in a very positive environment.

At Amsterdam amateur ballet I get the precious opportunity to inhabit another character for a while, while also practising the beautiful art of ballet. It’s so liberating to not be “me” for just a few hours!

I like that we are making the full ballet together. It lets you live your character not only for one variation as in the studio performance. I like changing costumes and characters every semester, trying something new in choreography like character dance for the Nutcracker or petit allegro dances for the Magic flute. I also like the freedom we have around production. Like last time, I decided to do the Peasant magazine as a way of promotion, and Julie was fully supportive about that. It’s more fun when you can play with your role beyond rehersals.

It’s difficult to find a place to perform as an adult dancer, especially when you’re busy with work, and the kid, and other side hustles. Dancing with AAB gives me an opportunity to structure my ballet training, a clear goal to work towards, and a lot of support from other dancers. Also, really like the pointe class, and it’s so rare to perform on pointe as an adult dancer.
